About Dr Mohamad Akram Laldin

Dr Mohamad Akram Laldin is the Executive Director of International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA). He is a Member of HSBC Amanah Global Shari’ah Advisory Board, a Member of Yassar Limited Shariah Advisory Board, the Chairman of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad’s Shari’ah Committee, the Chairman of HSBC Takaful Malaysia Berhad Shari’ah Committee, a Member of Islamic Advisory Board of HSBC Insurance Singapore, the Shari’ah Advisor to Equity Trust Malaysia Berhad and the Shari’ah advisor to ZI Syariah Advisory Malaysia.

He holds a B.A. Honours Degree in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legislation from the University of Jordan, Amman, and a Ph.D. in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Prior to being entrusted to head ISRA, he was taught and did research at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where at one time or another he managed the Fiqh and Usul Department, and assumed the post of the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the same University. In addition, he also served as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

In addition, we hold exclusive rights to some Syariah products, including those only available for accredited investors.

ESTATE PLANNING

Customised solutions with respect to Islamic Estate Planning.

The distribution of Muslim estates are governed by Faraid, a system or method of distribution of one’s assets after death in accordance with Islamic principles. However, one’s assets are not restricted to distribution purely under Faraid as there are other means of planning a Muslim’s estate, such as the use of wasiyyah, hibah ruqba and nuzriah. We understand your needs and provide you with customised solutions with respect to Islamic Estate Planning.

ZAKAT PLANNING

Zakat calculation services for both individuals and businesses.

Zakat, being the 3rd pillar of Islam, is an important aspect of every Muslim’s financial planning. We offer Muslim clients zakat calculation services for both individuals and businesses by working together with Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). Muslim clients who opt for this scheme will be sent a letter by a MUIS-appointed Amil to notify them of the amount of zakat payable once the necessary conditions (haul and nisab) are met. In 2012, we looked to introduce the concept of wakaf planning as part of our Islamic financial planning process.

Solutions for SMEs and institutions that are in-line or closest to that of Syariah.

We provide SMEs and institutions with solutions that are in-line or closest to Syariah. We also provide Singapore’s only Syariah-compliant commercial financing, consultation on Syariah standards and zakat calculations for businesses. We have provided Muslim SMEs and Islamic organizations, such as mosques, voluntary organizations and many others, with solutions tailored to their specific needs, including structuring staff benefits, investing excess liquidity and others.
